Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
The stats of an item are improved by upgrading it, also known as "upping". Each upgrade increment increases the stats linearly.
Players can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an indicator of the level of the item's upgraded components. The cost of recycling items scales depending on their rarity and level.
Upgrade components
In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats on your armor and weapons. This can be accomplished in a variety of ways, including by using upgrade components or increasing the rarity of an item or its mark level. Many items can also be reforged to increase their value.

To upgrade an item, click it from your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The preview will be displayed on the right hand side of the screen. It will show the expected stats after the upgrade. If you do not have enough of either, the Upgrade button will say Blocked.
The number of upgrade components needed for a given item can be seen in the upper-right corner of the window for upgrading. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level of the upgrade and its rarity, but can be reduced through a variety of ways, such as purchasing upgrades from a retailer or trading them with other players.
Many weapons can be improved by a prefix such as a rune, or an insignia. Other weapons can be upgraded by adding an suffix. These upgrades alter the name of the item to add an adjective, like "Radiant" or "Minor vigor.' The exceptions are the non-inscribable weapons, such as shields and foci from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any mods at all.
Glyphs

Each glyph comes with a range of values it can improve a stat by, as shown on the item when you open the glyph in the Glyph Storage or when you use them to enchant an artifact. This isn't the actual amount by which the glyph will increase a stat, but the maximum amount by which it is able to do so. The actual value of the glyph is determined by the tier and quality of the item you are in awe of it.
The majority of upgrade components installed into items cannot be removed or replaced without dismantling them, with the exception of legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a rune or glyph you don't want to use, but it's not been applied to gear yet, you can transfer the item to a different piece by using the Upgrade Glyphs menu in the Glyphs Panel. This will create a new Glyph Set with the selected glyph.
You can take out a glyph by using a Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. The item on which the glyph is installed will be destroyed, but the upgraded item can be recovered by removing the glyph fragments.
When you take away an item after adding a glyph the shards from the glyph will disappear. You can also add an inscription on your equipment to increase its value. Deferred Damage, for example can store damage, and then be dealt out slowly to the wearer rather than all at once. This is helpful for players who are taking a lot of damage from their enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens can be used to alter the affixes on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from many sources, such as mystery boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters, or by killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player a random affix that is generally better than the one they had before. Reroll tokens can also be used to upgrade weapon stats for more damage or bonuses.
Rerolled items are not listed on the menu for item upgrade s, but they can be upgraded. If you click the "upgrade button", you can recycle the recycled items. This will change the layout of the item's window, and allow up to six items to be selected to recycle. Recycling an item adds a small amount of points to its level gauge. The amount is by the item's rarity and its level. Therefore, items that are higher level are more valuable to recycle than lower-leveled ones.
Players can also use Reroll Tokens and Star Remnants to roll rerolling weapons to upgrade units. Rerolls roll the % chance of a particular weapon trait. If it is higher, the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower, it remains unchanged. Weapons can be repeatedly rolled up to three times.
Rerolling is a fantastic option to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware that the total ilvl is diminished by the number of the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This effect is most evident on Rings and Diadems because they are the only options to raise the ilvl.
Players have complained that the reroll system is too expensive. It would be fairer to allow players to pay for it using money or food items that would allow them to make changes to their builds without having to spend too much time. The developers do not plan to offer paid rerolls in this point in the game's development. Instead, they plan to include a race change potion in the future.
Leveling
